P4K on the Run

I'm planning on saving money for the next few weeks so I could buy myself some gadgets I've been wanting to buy as well as replace the ones I had quite sometime now. Starting today, I'll be saving up at least a hundred pesos a day until I save enough/more than enough money to buy myself a new cellphone, and a new pair of earphones for my I-Pod.

I was looking around yesterday in Robinson's Place-Ermita and I saw this really cool cellphone worth only Php4,500 more or less. I could buy it on an 6-monthy installment basis, about twelve hundred smackers. It has a 3 megapixel camera, has its own radio, goes with its own pair of earphones. This pocket-sized phone is just small enough to safely hide inside my pocket and just stays there. LOL!

Earphones are relatively cheaper, ranging from as little as Phop500 (original and not fake) to as much as Php10,000! I'm planning these cool pair from the Apple Store we have in school but I'm being tempted by the cheaper prices offered by another Apple Store in Rob Place. The one in CSB cost Php1,200 while a pair of Philips earphones a half cheaper. But I kinda want earphones that's worth its price: durable, effective and above all: hindi nasisira agad-agad.

Wish me luck! :D

P4k on the Run

What will you do in 46 school days?

A plan prophesied to change the way people do things their way...

Will it last? Will it succeed? Or is it doomed from the very start...

The answer starts tomorrow, June 30, onwards til the 46th school day.

Tomorrow...62 grains of sand will run down the hourglass until there's none left.

Another lay-out change?

Over the Green Fields: POPS in La Salle

I remember being a KPOP fanatic way back in high school. I got addicted thanks to BoA who was singing a set of songs for this all-musical variety show called "Showking M" and next thing I knew I got hooked on KPOP shows like Show Music tank, Showbiz Extra and most of all, Pops in Seoul where I fell in love watching VJ Soy, which I kinda of compared as Korea's Heart Evangelista but that's another story.

That was 2003...

Now? My ears kinda got glued to more mainstream...OPM, RnB and all that jazz but I still have that KPOP heart in me.

It was also that time when I took an interest on discovering what skills and talents I may have had and thus started trying out on new hobbies and interests. Among those I took up in the long-time is learning how to play a violin. From 2004 til almost exactly 2008 last year, I was working very hard to know the basics, the know-how and the pieces in order to become a good violinist.

I admit that it is hard. My fingers (especially my two thumbs) sored on every whim of the bow and every string I have to hold to make a note. But the hardship ends with reaping its fruits...I feel that week by week I get better and better and more familiar with the way I play. I may not turned out to being the next Yo Yo Ma in the four years learning the craft, nevertheless, the knowledge and and experience became a part of me that'll never go away. I had to leave violin for the meantime because of the demanding schedule I had at the time (one of the many reasons I quit the CSB Debate Society 2 years before).

A year later, I decided to try out for DLSU's Pops Orchestra, one of a select few orgs I believe that recruit Benildeans. It was actually a one-year pilgrimage, having learned about it from an old classmate of mine in Philien (Philippine Literature in English) who happens to play the violin and is a member of Pops. But time and again, gaining entry is a difficult task to achieve considering that effin' old hooligan that looks like a militant activist in charge of the Visitor's Desk in the South Gate. Don't want to go there, but I really really want to see him disappear for once.

And  disappear he did several months ago. I was able to gain entry inside and inquired about Pops in DLSU's Cultural Office. I learned that the org is going to recruit members the next term (this term!) so I decided to wait it out til then.

Today was simply great timing: 1)I get to have my refund from CGO back this day and 2)I plan on printing my next CP (contact print) for Conctpho in Paco (Because they're so cheap and I wanna explore Manila more!). So timing is just right.
I  wanna thank Jeco for reminding me about the recruitment week, at least I still had some time left to achieve my goal.

The cultural office directed me to go to the "band room" in the Science Building that's somewhere near the La Salle sports complex. Too bad my permit only allows me to go to not anywhere else but the library where I told the evil man from the South Gate that I'll be going, which I did went so I could have access to a book that's only found there (I want to thank Niko for that bit by the way).

I got hold of the school's number and Pop's extension number and I was able to talk to what I presume as one of the org's officers, which calls himself ironically by the initials "JL"...Same initials as I (except people don't usually call me by that nickname other than James, Jaime and, rarely, Luis).

JL told me that he'll text me but for the meantime, he'll try to arrange my audition with his supervisor and fixed the necessary permits for me to gain entry without any hussle from "the rotten old goon of the South Gate".

Pray that I get myself in...

The Greater Online Good

Sometimes, there are certain things that draws people together: common interests, hobbies, school affiliations, orgs, associations and anything the shares a common bond between individuals.

Thus, it kind of transcends the process of "common interests" to the World Wide Web which not only provides the infrastructure for people from all over the world, but also helps creates a senses of pacified social order and understanding. The proliferation of various online forums and social networking sites proves such.

However, as any other mediums, it is without its own set of problems: identity theft, cyberporn, bashes, conflicts, and flaming. It prevents people to trust each other in cyberspace in belief that above all else, they are still strangers. That belief unfortunately is what fuels this unnecessary bashing and fighting online because these hooligans do such knowing people won't be able to identify them in reality and because the Internet in general has limited regulations, it provides and avenue for them to do harm in cyberspace.

Nonetheless, it seems that it doesn't prevent good-hearted people to at least give a kind of trust to whoever they meet online in forums or any other social networks. Much the same as how the Internet is used to harm people, it also do a lot of good (if it is used for good that is).

There have been cases wherein married couples reasoned the Internet as the reason how they met, fell in love, and eventually tied the knot. It also became an open window wherein celebrities and ordinary folk could connect with each other (with the likes of Facebook, MySpace and Twitter). Not only that, people who are legends in their own right are somehow drawn to online discussions concerning different fields that affects them, one way or another. Not only that long lost friends, and family members were able to reconnect with the help of sites like Friendster and Facebook.

In my own experience, I'm more than honored to have met such extraordinary people with really interesting stories to tell as well as share the common things that "makes us brothers". I have met people who works, who used to work in an industry that I will, someday, join. I have met people who not only helped me understand things more in the clear, but became the kind of friends that I always wished to have (even if I already have friends in the physical world) without having to reveal much of who were are nor at the same time having to be lie).

And this is what fulfills the Internet's ultimate purpose: Create and foster an environment where people could freely gather and express their views liberally without fear and conflict as well as with understanding and prosperity.

In other words: "Make the world a smaller place"

YouTube - MYX Channel 2009 - Club MYX OBB

One of my favorite OBB's among the new opening updates used for MYX's programs.

The first one, I remember the whole opening was simply a scene from an actual club with lighst flashing. The "Club Myx" logo would "assemble" as it fades in. The logo is somewhat similar to Urban Myx's early opening.

Reality and Dreams: "Tatakbo Ka Rin?"

In my deepest slumber, there is always a part of me that's still conscious and somehow I could still hear myself talking and even feel if my body moves uncontrollably.

Have I told you that as of this writing that I just got up?

Well, last night is undoubtedly one of those nights where I notice that I'm talking in my dream. Details are still a bit blurry but all I could remember is that Lean was handing out some pamphlets and I was like asking him if "Tatakbo ka rin?", meaning he's running for office.

I don't know if its for school elections, or political elections or whatever but for all I know he's running for something.

On another note, I can't believe I had a full 9 hours of sleep!

Oh Lord Good Gracious!

The Boredom and All

MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!

Good afternoon to those who are still investing 90% of their boredom Facebooking, Mafia Warring, Restaurant City-ing and all those other things that could get you occupied for the rest of the remaining days of this unwanted term break til class resumes for some this Friday, June 19. Seven days earlier it was our country's Independence Day so I hope you observed it well!

I'm doing my part with some ounces of Facebook, watching some stuff on TV (although the NBA finals are but over), and doing catch-up with some shows I'm following. Not to mentioning trying to finish a 10-page draft screenplay for my VidProd1. I already got started with that and hopefully I'll be able to finish them 2 Wednesdays from now.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: June 24 is Araw ng Maynila, a special non-working holiday declared by PGMA. Since the 24th falls on a Wednesday, I'm pretty sure CSB's higher-ups is going to declare the day a holiday (after all, it's only city-wide!) and it just happens that my Vidprod1 is my one and only class on a Wednesday so I'm pretty sure my homework's deadline is going to be extended (wee!)

I'm so bored to tell you guys the truth. I really had to force myself into doing a blog just so to pass off the time. And what better way to do that but also watch the sky go gloomy and rainy.

The subidivision, as usual is flooded and I'm still complaining about how our LGU wasn't able to at least finish of rehabilitating the rest of subdivision by raising the streets and clean as much garbage from the esteros as soon as possible.

But NOOOO...They don't unless someone forces them to make our place a priority infrastructure project.

I'm tell you the things the things that boredom could do to you! :D

Happy Belated Independence Day!

The CSB Experience 3: 2 Weeks Off

Waaghhh! Classes in CSB are suspended until the 18th and it will resume the next day Friday. I'm going back to school on the 22nd Monday because I don't have a class scheduled on Fridays. So what to do...what to do?

I've already wasted 2 days bumming around at home while the sun is out shining and the sky is blue like the oceanic waves. And yet, here I am at home doing nothing but doing nothing but sleep, watch TV or surf the internet.

I know I should make the best out of the unwanted vacation, like forcing myself to get started with that screenplay for Vidprod1. I have the benefit of using 2 weeks of no school to do this one simple thing and yet I'm wasting time just to get myself a grip.

Tomorrow is June 12, our country's Independence Day. This should remind me that I go to college to study and get prepared on the things I will face in the real world. Things that I should do to better this country of ours.

I may be suffering a case of writer's block, who could blame me? I totally have no clue of the software program my professor want me to use, either Final Draft or Screen2Screen.

No use whining so I guess tomorrow, I should work my butt of starting this one already.

The CSB Experience 3: Friday Madness

After rumors have been swirling about the cancellation of the CSB delegation's trip to Singapore for CG Overdrive for few days already, Sir Chino Wasan posted in the MMA Y! Groups a statement which gives strong confirmation that indeed, we're not going to Singapore after-all.

Taken from the MMA Y! Groups

Boys and Girls,

It is with a heavy heart that i bring you this piece of information. You've
probably heard it from someone else, so let me set things straight. The CG
Overdrive 2009 CSB delegation will not be attending the Expo.

If you have been reading recent posts, you should know that a student from the
De La Salle Main campus caused the school to seize operations for 10 days
because of the Influenza A(H1N1) virus. In this light, the CSB community is
taking precautionary measures to veer away from the DLSU case. Last night a
memorandum was sent out, signed by Ms. Vanny Puente, MMA Chairperson and OIC
Dean, Robin Serrano, prohibiting students to attend the said event. Though this
may seem harsh, especially to those who have paid for airfare and
accommodations, we are still coming up with a solution to that. For those who
have paid for the registration fees and the video games live tickets at the
accounting office, your payment shall be reimbursed. I will be updating you soon
via this yahoo group.

As per the above mentioned memo, all blue forms shall be considered null and
void. This means all absences from June 15 to 20 will not be considered
"excused." Another memo (attached), mentions that students who arrive from
another country are required to defer from going to school for 10 days also.
This means a total of 16 days will be missed, 14 of which are school days. This
means you may miss 2 or more meetings per subject, and this is enough for your
teacher to give you a grade of 0.0. If ever you decide to push through with the
trip, there are a few possible scenarios.

First scenario: you go to Singapore, and they find out you're a carrier of the
virus. You stay there, quarantined for God knows how long.

Second Scenario: you go to Singapore, return to the Philippines, and airport
officials find out you have the virus. You will be quarantined for more than 10
days and miss a lot of school work (and most probably fail).

Third Scenario: you go to Singapore, return to the Philippines, you don't follow
the 10 day quarantine requirement and come to school, if you do carry the virus,
you spread it to everyone else in campus and all hell breaks loose!

Fouth Scenario: you go to Singapore, return to the Philippines, be quarantined
for 10 days (write reaction papers for the seminar points), and fail 2 or 3
subjects this term due to excessive absences.

Guys, this is a loose-loose situation. I'm really sorry I helped you get into
this mess. I really feel for you, especially the ones who booked for packages
with a promo rate. The best we can do for now is provide you with a letter for
the travel agencies/ airlines etc. requesting for a refund or a lesser evil,
such as travel for a later date. As your friend, I am frustrated. This is the
first time I was supposed to visit Singapore. As your teacher, I am hopeful that
you do the right thing and choose not to go. As a parent myself, I fear for my
child's safety. I also would want my child to do well in academics and not
choose any event that would compromise her studies or her health. If you have
questions, clarifications or should your parents have inquiries, please feel
free to contact me via 09228244670. Again I apologize for any inconvenience
caused.

Multi Media Arts - School of Design and Arts
De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde

Earlier, Sino Chino called for a meeting at the SDA Amphitheater and broke to the delegates the sad news. I wasn't able to come since I don't have a class on a Friday. I already mentioned in my last blog that because of the hysteria going on since DLSU's virus drama, I'm not surprised if the trip to Singapore would be put into jeopardy (or even the event itself).

Sad that I won't be going overseas after all nor do the 200 or so co-delegates who paid for the registration fees, VGL tickets. Especially those who took CSB's promo package (around Php25,150), including me.

Pray that something good will happen at the end of the dark tunnel of madness.

The CSB Experience 3: Quaranteen

In the light of yesterday's DLSU AH1N1 drama, CSB issued a statement stating that CSB remains flu-free (from swine flu that is...) and keeping it that way by taking "precautionary measures". Despite that, classes on this side of Taft-Estrada-P.Ocampo resumed normally.

Despite the heavy downpour of rains, classes will continue as schedule for us college peeps. Awww...

I noticed several employees from the sanitary engineering department were wearing masks when I was in the SDA lobby waiting for an elevator. I didn't mind at first til I also saw some students wearing facemasks as well. But it didn't budge me until I went to the clinic to ask for some cough-cold medicine which I've been having for a couple of days now.

Don't worry, it's a seasonal thing that I always have whenever the season kicks in. :P

Before leaving, they gave me a mask as a safety precaution. Weird yes, but since I do have qa cold, it doesn't hurt if wearing a mask is necessary on such a stressful and rainy time. Hehehe.

Wearing a zipped up jacket to protect myself from the cold, I went to class with people staring at me, surprise as if I'm someone they have to avoid (which shouldn't be really much of a case). I got "compliments" from friends and acquiantances, telling me that I look like a "doctor", "scientist", "serial killer" (well not much of that third one XD).

Sheena, Inna, Aje, and Alyssa also saw me while walking acorss the 11th floor hall. Their reaction was...jaw-dropping. Sorry, really can't describe but you know the feeling, right?

Fashion statement? Hehehe...Good thing I wasn't the only one.

However, laugh as we want to, this is nothing to laugh if the whole situation is increasingly becoming serious. I won't be surprised that even  the CG Overdrive event in Singapore would be in jeopardy with all this hullabaloo. So let's pray that things will turn out for the better.

Reality and Dreams: "Has Something to Do With..."

A premonition most likely...

I had this dream early Sunday morning (madaling araw), I was in a church in Maysilo, the one my family would always go to for Mass every Sunday and me being the leading character of this whole joint, was present.

We sang some church songs here and there, from "Papuri" to "Paghahandog" to "Kordero ng Diyos" to "Humayo't Ihayag..." and I felt like nothing's wrong was going on.

It was when I turned to my right and saw the choir looking at me...Staring at me like as if they were trying to tell me something.

I turned red because, maybe in my dream, I was supposed to do something. Something important, life-changing, and unthinkinkable, not even unheard of.

I (in the dream) was thinking of something that I should have done quite a while ago at the time, something that has something to do with...
