The first day of classes was pretty silent. I'm just saying since my class doesn't start until 2:3- in the afternoon so all the enthusiasm was all received by the froshies who attend in the morning.
Before I arrived at CSB, I had to go to SM Valenzuela to bring back an item that I accidentally bought so right after that, i rode a jeep in McArthur Highway going en route to Monuemnto. I thought that it's going to be straight but all of the sudden, it stopped somewhere in Marulas. It just so happen that the site where the Tullahan bridge is has now been totally blocked. So I decided to straight to where the Tullahan once stood. All's going well, until I saw that a jeep was picking up passengers. Takwe note, al the jeeps there are lining up in the right side o the road so I thought a portion of the bridge is still intact and that I would be able to takle a ride and go there smnoothl. Apparently, I thought wrong, I have mistakenly took the wrong jeep as it began to head towards northbound to Malanday! Yeeeh, talk about crazy mistakes! I have to go back to where I was then and went back to the site of the bridge. There wss now a footbridge made for us to walk across the river.
Thank goodness, I saw throngs of jeep that are really heading towards Monumento. Too bad I'm already covered in sweat, I have to freshen myself a bit by using my face towel to rid my face, back and chest from all the sweat.
At past twelve, I arrived at the Monumento LRT station, waiting along with many other passengers. I took a while for us to get inside a train after one has been under test run. I arrived at the Vito cruz station at about 2 in the afternoon.
Well, I tok out my ID and swiped it on this white censor machine. Once inside, I don't what else to do since I'm yet to know my way around CSB. Good thing, I saw one of my blockmates, Alex. We waited at the airport for our other blockmates. Eventually, all of us in DV1 have all met up in our room, M506.
Our first subject was FILIP11. We were given an hour long orientation by our professor, Mr. Santiago. Followed by our Philippine history, our prof. this time is very strict in terms on passing due assignments. Well, she's fun really. Last was our NATSCA1, Human Factors in Design. We were greeted by a substitute since our real teacher had to do someting urgent.
It's not really as energietic since it was in the afternoon after all. But the god thing is that I get to know some of my blockmates.
of course there's Alex, then Tina, Jico, Chris, Lance, Gibert, Pax, Issi, Marlon, Jisney. I still yet to memorized all the names of my other blockmates. but one things is for sure, almost all of them know what my anme is, JAMES. Kawawa ako, alam ko name nila, ako di pa. wah.
Well, there you have it! Until my next experience in CSB!

The CSB Experience: Expectations, Goals, Ambitions, Adjustments, etc.
In less than 60 hours away, I'll be packing up my bags and leave my house for college. Well, it's a jeepney and LRT ride away from Valenzuela all the way to Taft so it shouldn't be a problem for me if transportation is concerned. What I'm worried about are the things I will meet once I get inside the Taft campus.
Expectations
-I expect myself to increase my study hours so as not to fail any of my subjects since it is hard to make up for it.
-I expect my full attention to any lectures given by our teachers. I really have to get myself out of daydreaming, it really sucks bigtime!
-I expect myself to be fully confident in pursuing lifelong interests. Walang hiya-hiyadapat kasi kung gusto ko iyon, eh di go for it!
-I expect a code-switching crisis between speaking ESL and the national vernacular.
Goals
- My number one goal is to finish my schooling so I really have to take one step at a time.
-next goal is to have my time organized. Since I have a non-consecutive schedule (hindi sunud-sunod bawat araw), I really have to make the best out of it.
-Last is to make friends with the guys from my block. It's hard to get around of you don't know anyone.
Ambitions
-I want to finish college no matter what.
-I want to change my after-school lifetsyle.
-I want to make sure that I don't forget anything important.
-I want to leave my clumsiness in high school for all eternity.
Adjustments
-I have to adjust myself from Malabon to Taft Ave.
-I have to adjust myself to the traditions being followed in Benilde.
-I have to adjust myself to the rules and regulations being placed upon all Benildeans.
-I have to adjust myself to my different schedules throughout the week.
-I have to adjust myself from taking pictures almost everyday and turning them into slideshow movies. I have to stick it to my mind that I'm no longer in SJA.
-I have to adjust myself to get along with people with different personalities.
-Last is that I have to adjust myself to the street life of Manila.

When She Left Me Part 4
An alarmed clock rings. Larry gotup and looked at it. The clock reads 5:30 am, time to prepare the twins' lunches. He went downstairs to make breakfast. From the fridge, Larry brought out some eggs, bacon, frozen hotdogs and cheese. He also took a box of pancake mix from the kitchen shelf. In no time at all, breakfast is now ready.
To ease the Macalajoc's growing expense, Larry sent their maid home but assured her that he will need her if he is now financially stable to pay for her services. For that, Larry has to make up for it by working thrice as hard: as a househusband, as a single father, as a working dad. Fortunately, Larry is one heck of an organizer. He made a weekly schedule from which he will follow all things that he has to do on any particular day. He even wrote all upcoming events so to make sure he wn't forget them.
Speaking fo events, Larry almsot forgot that the day after Thursday is the twins' school play! Adding to it is today is Thursday. He quickly remebered that he promised them that he'll invite their mom. he reach out for his cellphone but he hesitates. He's not sure if Marla would care enough too see her own children but for the twins' sake, he called her anyway.
Marla's phone is ringing, Larry's anxiously awaits her answer. The phone keeps on ringing but Marla didn't answer. He was about to hang up his cellphone when a voice prompt suddenly spoke. He listened and it was actually Marla's voice messenger, so he recorded his voice so later Marla would hear it soon.
His wife's phone was in loudespeaker mode and was picked up by Marla herself. The phone's screen appeared and asked Marla if she wants to delete the voice message, she press "yes". A tear fell from her eye.

The CSB Experience: Frosh Orientation
[Author's note: since I'm already am a student of CSB, all articles after my enrollment in CSB shall no longer be part of the J-University Adventures blog series]
May 23 was the frosh orientation of all the incoming students who enrolled at courses from CSB's School of Design and Arts. Actually, it was my first time to hear the word "frosh" when I read about the event from one of my brochures.
We were all assembled at the airport/carport but as we grew in number (and that was before the announced 8 am call time) we were all sent to the LRC extension. There I mingled with two felow SDA students while at the same time waiting for my friends from SJA to come since we are all SDA. The girl next to me since the be the most talkative since she blabs things or I might say complains on all the things she missed out. Why? Coz' she was actually raised in OMan, a country situated in the Middle East lying next to neighboring UAE, Kuwait and Qatar. I told her, i sometimes get myself updated on Balitang Middle East out of curiousity. When i mentioned to her about that incdent about the tuition fee hike in a Philippine INternational School in Oman, she was sure it was her school.
Well, any way, we talked a lot of things. My schoolmates from Saint James Academy came in time and it was also time for us to be get together with the other froshies) of the same section. I'm from DV1 and the most common thing that me and the othe DV1 blockmates have i common was that we all have MMA as our chosen course.
Our classroom for the next three terms is room M506 where we will have to contend with spending hours studying lessons exept for those where we need to go to another classroom or area. We were allowed to get a seatthat we want. I went for the one where i can move easliy. The guy seated next to me is MArlon who freshed out from Siena College of Taytay, SJA's sister school (both schools are administered by the Siena Sisters). well talked about distance, man.
Well, at first we were given three highly-trained and professionally professional orientators in the likes of Kuya JV, Kuya Bobop, and Ate KT aka Ate Kathleen Tiu. Many from DV1 are 17 years old with the youngest at 15 and the oldest, around 18-19. Surprsiingly wehave no foreign students in our class room, so it's kind of a plus for the three orientators so that they don't have to worry on code-switching into English. Plus we have several transferees, one is from neighboring NCAA rival Colegio de San Juan De Letran. He was wearing stripes, and so does some of the guys here, since we were told to wear green. I guess, Green is not their thing,
But i do, I already have a clothing ine of green shirts from my closet, waiting to be worn by me (hehehe).
Ehem....Were was I? Ah, oh yeah. Well, there were also some late-comers. One of them wore a white t-shirt behind a dark blue hooded sweater (Philippine English term: jacket). At the start of the orientation, we were given name tags and were told not to have them stick to our shirts yet.
That way, we were to have this game where we will introduce our selves to the person next to us, stating our name, high school, and fave food. Then once we learn things about him, we'll tell the other person what we know about him/her and so on...
Well it worked in a way except, what's left it is remebering the name but not the very people being talked about. hehehe.
Next activity, the more conventional way: a formal introduction witn a twist; saying who we are, what our age is, from what school, what talents we have, and what the sexiest thing about us about. Well, I was one of the first. I said my name, my age, my school, and the sexiest thing about me: my eyes. Thereason for it is that whenever I take my glassess off , see a reflection of myself at the mirror and get surprised that I looked better than when I wear my specs.
Off to that, i can only remember some names: Marlon is the guy from Siena College taytay, Sheena is a very outrspoken gal from Kuwait, Jason is the guy in a wheelchair, Pax is a girl from St. Claire QC. 2 guys are from Iloilo, another is from a Lasalista school, particularly from La Salle-Zobel, and others i just can't really recall for now. Yes, I mentioned there are lots of transferees pero sa tngin ko parang may mali sa sitwasyong ito, sa totoo lang.
Skipped to the campus tour, the whole block of section 1 got the biggest surprised of their lives when one of the supposed transferees was actually, from the start....*drumroll*. a highly-trained and professionally professional ORIENTATOR!
Shocked to the sense that were like been hit by lightning. He took off his sweater and the t-shirt he wore was actually a CSB-printed shirt. Ate KT and the two guys already knew about it from the beginning. We were like speechless fornwho would knew that he was not a new student like the rest of us. Kuya Blue (his name) didn't really look older than us (well, we have transferees so who knew, no?) and he mingled with the rest of us so we didn't suspect a thing. Hah, the surprised of our lives. Heh!
So skip for the Campus tour, we were greeted by the upperclass peeps, our sempais, who will guide us to survive CSB. We went around the 4 halls of the college, dwelled into the "warp zone' And got info about many of the main offices found inside the Taft campus, their comlabs, the I-NOOK, the DR, the Audi, and the CSB Theater.
The day seemed longer that we didn't knew what to expect on the final hour of the orientation. Before that, we had our last few activties so to liven up the atmosphere inside M506. One we played i s called a "sushi roll". We hold hands togther and as a line, we wrapped ourselves until we wrapped ourselves out. Next was the Chimmy Chummy. As we sing the Chmmy chummy song, we have to move our feets as dictated by our orientators: move left, move right, move left, jump 3x. The challenge is we do that with our shoulders lying next to other guy's shoulders, then on to touching each other's knee, then to our feet.We were already laughing and sweating.
last of course seemed to have become a tradition for those entering Benilde. The last game was "FUSION". We all grouped together and formed a circle, after the count of three, we make squats, turing all of us as sitting chairs. While performing that, we all move around clockwise and stopped at the exact point from where we started. Hah, pagod! SAYA!
Then, the last main event for the day, all the SDA students were gathered in the CSB theater. Most sitted at the flor. The upperclasspeople warmly welcomed us and as a sign of welcoming us, they showed us not only several videos about the school (promise, their video prods were GREAT!) Production numbers from the CSB Pep Squad, highly unexpecting and virtually excellent if not superb! Footworx seems to get the music going on (yeah). All the other orientators are still high in energy, while I'm already gfeeling tired with teh things that have happened on that day. Ther was also a welcome speech from one of the La Salle Brothers (sorry I forgot his name). Well, he made the audience giggle when he surprised us with removing his thing on his neck.
Th event ended with the showing of the La salle alma mater hymn sang by the students of all the La Salle instituitions in the country, followed up by 2 versions of the CSB hymn, one traditional, one pop.
Yup, that was a great day indeed, and what better way to end it than be welcomed by members of different orgs, campaigning for us to join their organizations. I justr cant decide which to join, since 3 orgs plus the Benilde Press corps all matched my interests.
All i have to say really is....ANIMO SAN BENILDO! (wow!)

J.I.A. (James In America): May 18, 2001 Friday
May 14 ng Lunes ay mid-term elections kaya heto pa rin still remembering the good ol' times.
O sige, stick with the program na ako. Longfelow Middle School.
Ang nakakatuwa, saya nilang makita ako, as in super excited! Sigaw sila ng sigaw na "We have a new student!!" Paulit ulit ito. Suwerte ko nga kasi special day iyon, may one time experience kami na maglaro ng bowling sa labas ng school grounds. May isang saskyan na may built-in na bowling alley. First time ko rin naman, pinauna na rin ako. 1st try, bio pero nd is a charm, 'ika nga. nakatumba ako ng halos buong set.
Mga tanong nila ay "What's your name?", "Where are you from?", "Where in the place is the Philippines?".
ANo kaya no, kung Amerikano ako at new student pa sa Pilipinas, anong klaseng treatment kaya ang mararanasan ko? As of this writing, naalala ko tuloy si Raymond Anderson nung 2nd Year.
for the rest of that period, nagswing lang ako, saya kasi ibang klaseng swing ang naransan ko.
Dividing long division Using Decimals.
Kaso, di kaagad puede umuwi kasi by order siya.
Bagong tao, bagong maiiwasa, bagong pakikisamahan, bagong aatupagin at marami pang iba.
O sige, stick with the program na ako. Longfelow Middle School.

When She Left Me Part 3
Larry was driving his kids to school when his son, Yuichi, reminded him about their school play which was to be held that coming Friday. Larry promised them that he will come as soon as he leaves work. Karla then asked if their mom is coming to watch the play, their dad suddenly became silent. The twins seems oblivious to the situation faced by their parents.
At work, Larry tried his best to hide his personal dilemma from doing his job. But his co-workers began to notice a change in his actions, from making decisions to worker-to-worker conversations. Not soon after, rumors began to circulate about Larry's failed marriage. Larry's employees began to create their own theories but hi didn't seem to care. Eventually, the news reached the ears of Larry's parents. they began to worry about their son's personal crisis.
His mom called him on his cellphone and asked him what happened. Straight to her ear, what she feared the most came true: his daughter-in-law filing an annulment to nullify their marriage. Larry's parents are not the kind of people who would want to make their children the perfect sons and daughters they ever had, doing what their parents wants them to do. They encouraged their son to make wise decisions and think of the possibilities that every decision may bring about. They never forced Larry and Marla to marry because they want to make sure they want them to make their decision on how they can live up to what they did.
That night, Larry came home very tired from work. He went to the twins' room and caught them asleep. He kissed their foreheads and while they were sleeping, he said to them this words, "What makes me still standing on my two feet is because I still have you, my children, my only family".
After that, he went to his room and began to cry in sorrow, unsure of he will do next the following day. He laid himself onto his bed. Next to his share of the bed lies an empty space on the other half which used to be occupied by his wife. Tears continue to flow from his eyes and as he turned off the nearby lamp, he said to himself "Good night".

When She Left Me Part 2
"What?!", that was the initial reaction received by Larry from his best friend, Finz (short for Josefino Arceo). Finz was pretty much surprised on what he had just learned about Larry's wife leaving him. He just couldn't believe it. What kind of a woman would leave her own husband like that, he thought. Larry himself couldn't believe that all of this is happening. They never had any serious fights, he is a one-woman man so it's impossible that she left him for he has another woman. It just doesn't makes sense, he thought.
Suddenly, Finz made a theory. He thinks that Marla left him for another man. Larry just laughed it off, saying that she couldn't do that for she was raised by her parents to be a God-fearing person. She wouldn't do that to ruin our marriage, he says. Finz took his word back and suggested another possibility: She left him so she can file for an annulment. Larry begged to differ. "On what basis would she file for an annulment for?", he asked. Finz suggested on some of the grounds for it: forced marriage, and married at an early age. He denied any of the grounds saying, they were married when they were 19 on their own free will so they can take care of their twins as married parents.
Finz insisted that there is a possibility that Marla was not satisfied on their relationship. Larry can only say one thing, and that is that they both love each other and they're doing it for their children's sake.
More than a week after, Larry received a mail. It is an enveloped which contains some important documents. He found out that the mail was sent by his wife. He immediately opened that mail and was shocked with what he saw inside: Annulment papers. He read the documents closely and he read the basis for his wife's filing. It states there that she was married against her will. It also reads that she was forced to marry so that they can together take responsibility on taking care for their love child on fear that they would become illegitimate.
Larry was angry on what he read. He looked for the return address written on the envelope and it was the address of his in-laws' home in Laguna. He immediately went there to demand an explanation from his wife.
Once there, his wife saw him from their window. She went down and confronted Larry. He asked what is the meaning of her actions and why she is doing it. Marla said told him to read the annulment papers. It sates there her reasons. But Larry cried foul over it, saying that they both agree to take responsibility of their actions. She said that only he took the responsibility of their actions and she didn't. It wasn't her fault why she was pregnant that time. She said that she was forced to engaged sex with him since Larry was drunk that time.
Larry couldn't not believe what he's hearing. Yes, he was drunk but she was drunk too. They were both careless with their actions so they have to make up for it by being the responsible married parents that they are. Marla, with deep hatred towards him, slapped Larry at the face. She broke into tears and called her husband a good-for-nothing husband. she told him that she never wanted to become his wife, nor to become a mother to their twins. She didn't stated it on their annulment papers but that truth is, she never want to take care of their twins. She claims her dreams were shattered and taken away from when she gave birth. She never intended to become realtor, saying that she's took the job so that she could save money to hire a lawyer. It was her children who shattered her dreams to bits and for that she could not forgive them nor her own husband. She is willing to risk anything so that she can be free again. What really hurt Larry the most was when Marla said these words: "I never loved you from the beginning..."
With all of this words, Larry denies all of Marla's words. He believes that what she is saying is false. If there was any problem, they should fixed together. He begged his wife to come back to him and to their family. Marla just bade Larry a farewell and went back inside her parents' house. Larry broke into tears, came down to his knees and yelled for his wife to come back. Then he yelled his wife's name for one last time.
To be continued...

When She Left Me Part 1
Lauro Jose D. Macalajoc was a very bright 16-year old boy with a very bright future. He was accepted in a prestigious college, he is the class valedictorian, not only that he won awards ranging from spelling bees to sports fests trophies.
It was during their high school graduation did he met the girl that would change his life forever. She is Marla Karylle P. Rejas, a top student who boast both beauty and brains. He made the worst decision in his life of asking her to be his girlfriend at the eve of their graduation. Little did he know that that mistake will soon have its consequences.
Lauro, or Larry to his friends and family, gave the biggest surprise to his family. Right in the middle of his first year in college did he told them that something happened between him and his girlfriend Marla. He told them that she's pregnant and that he's the father. This little piece of news shocked the family and asked why they did it and why they did it on such an early age.
And this where our story begins.
A little after 5 years, Larry is now a general manager on a car company in EDSA. He earned this after he sold ten of their models to clients in a record of just two months. Higher job means higher salary, he thought.
He said to himself that his family would be glad by this piece of good news. He came home that night and told to his two kids, Yuichi and Karla, and they congratulated him with kisses and hugs. Then, eager to tell his wife, Larry asked the kids where their mom is. She went out to buy groceries, they said. Disappointed that she wouldn't be able to know about his promotion, Larry decided to prepare dinner for the while family so that Marla wouldn't have to do it. Besides, he is in a good mood after being promoted.
Around six thirty in the evening, Marla came home with a bag full of groceries. She was surprised to see her husband home very early and had dinner made for her. She asked if there was a special occasion. Larry then told her about the good news. His wife just smiled and congratulated him. She called on the maid to take care of the groceries while she and the rest of the family begin to eat supper.
As they were eating, Larry can't help but see something in Marla's eyes. Her eyes looks sad, he thought. It's been like that ever since they were married. Even after they were married, both of them continued their studies although Marla had to put hers on hold to focus on her pregnancy where she gave birth to twins. Larry finished earlier but Marla was able to finish hers a semester after. they never had any marital arguments but Larry can still feel the awkwardness that they both feel with each other. Both of them have respectable jobs, he as a car company general manager and she, a realtor. Both of them shared responsibilities over their two kids, often bringing them to out-of-town trips and attending to school events together. But yet, he thought that something is still wrong and that he fears that this would grow into a large problem if they both ignore to face it.
One day, Larry told Marla and the twins that he'll be gone for an overseas trip to Japan with representatives of the car company he works with to attend a seminar with of other car company representatives. He said he'll be gone for at least three weeks, and to ensure of his return, he promised his kids on buying them toys made from japan and Japanese novels translated into English for his wife. The following day he left the Philippines and prayed that when he comes back, his family would welcome him with open arms. It didn't.
Three weeks after, he came back with lots of presents that he would give for his twins and to his wife. He arrived at their house that night and with full glee, he opened the door and came looking for his wife and kids. He saw the maid crying, he thought something was wrong. He went upstairs and saw his kids, Yuichi and Karla, crying. The twins saw their father and ran toward Larry to hug him. He asked if there was something happened. Karla was too scared to tell so Yuichi told Larry the bad news: Marla just left the house.
Larry was shocked, surprised and can't think what he would do next. He never thought he would see this coming so soon. they never fought, they never argue over anything, they honest with each other. "But was she?", he said to himself. Was his wife dishonest all this time. What was the reason why she left him, and their twins. What can he do to fix this? Is this the start of their marriage's total collapse?

And now here it is:
A. First Term
1. History 3 (Philippine History)
2.Filip11 (Sining ng Komunikasyon)
3.Poligov 3 (Politics and Governance)
4. Gepsych 3 (General Psychology)
5. Ordev-A (1) [Orientation and Development of Values A]
6.Bibstud 3 (Bible Study)
7. Peonepf 2 (Physical Fitness)
Good thing is that I have yet to have a NSTP until my sophomore year! Hahaha!

Naimbag Nga Aldaw [mula sa Ilocos] (Good Day from Ilocos)
Wow! What a great week of staying in Ilocos and taking a break from doing laundry! Since I was already in Ilocos Norte, what better way to spend it but to write and record all the Ilocano terms i see there. Most of the terms below are actually campiagn messages from politicians runing for the midterm elections next week. The only ones I really understand are the terms "Ibotos/Ibutos/Ilayon Tayo!" (Iboto Natin/Let's Vote) and Annak Ti Batac (Anak ng Batac/Child of Batac). Ilocos has a totally different culture as compared here in Manila. But I tell you all about on my next blog entry.
here they are:
Rangay ti Sangkailan
Ilayon a vocal
Taklin dagiti pada nga nakurapay
Isubli tayo ti napudno a panagserbi
Pudno a Gayyem
Dios ti Angnganen
Dios to kumugay
Magsidalus iti arusbayan kaya
Maayat ken napudno nga agserbi
Ilayon tayo
Annak ti Batac
Ibutos tayo
Isubli tayo ti napudno a panagserbi
Namnama ti masakbayan
