To begin, I first heard of Twitter while I was somewhere along the LRT and had my ears plugged on my CD Player set to FM. I heard from this DJ host of a show that he was inviting his listeners to "follow" him in Twitter, the same goes to his female co-host. The female co-host had a lovely name of a Twitter username while the DJ host made use of his real name. And that's how it all began...
A couple of days later, I got an invite from my old profesor, sir Henry Bolo to join him in Twitter. yeah a lot of people miss him so I gave Twitter a shot.
Once in, I find it rather...simple. Nothing much special about except that it has the fast features of Facebook and the present-status style of Plurk without the karma enticement. There are "Twitterological" terms I've yet to know about but other than that, I find it something eye-pleasing for a change.
Out of the blue, I began to hear news of "Twitter this" and "Twitter that". And then I found this article from TVGuide.com about Ashton Kutcher being able to gather one million Twitter users as his "followers" ahead of CNN but is being threatened by the looming "twittering" presence of Oprah with her solid minions (I love saying that! :P).
And now just this morning, on a radio show that I always listen to, the two hosts of the program were discussing about Twitter being this very explosive phenomenon. One of the hosts recently got himself registered to the site and soonerafter, he was "twittering" with his colleague who's based from abroad.
The other host did said that morning that a lot of people were really reacting negatively over the rise of these social networking sites, because it has something to do with the growing trend of people's interaction through these new mediums (in short, we don't show our faces to each other anymore). She compared this to the same situation faced by the television and the radio when they were first introduced to the public since-God-knows-when.
You guys may say that I'm one of those people who had those kinds of reaction toward Twitter and company. But I'm not over-all against it. It's just that, I feel so overwhelmed by their rising presence that's happening too fast for me to catch up to.
Besides Multiply, I also have accounts from Facebook, Friendster, Plurk, Zorpia (never really used this one-heck-of-a-website-endorsed-by-Madonna), PinoyExchange, etc (Trust me, Neopets was the first).
I'm kinda addicted by the status feature that Facebook, Twitter and Plurk has. I might be set for FB for the long-term while I feel that sooner or later, I'm gonna reach a saturation point for Plurk. In the case of my Twitter, I made my updates quite sparingly until now.
So for now, I have to wait until all these twittering buzz starts to simmer down. I know it's not over til I know that the the DJ's* who first "introduced" me into Twitter starts to promote their Twitter account on air on an increasingly lesser basis. :D
(*Fun fact: One of them is my contact in my Facebook account while the other is my ka-Multiply 6 months earlier, hehehe)
