Pearl'N'Beans

Something I wrote just now. Enjoy reading:

“Pearl’n’Beans”

Once upon a time, there was once a farmer boy named Awiyao. He loves planting rice and dreamt of becoming a farmer like his father. He lived in a hut on a barrio called Mapatiuacal. He is loved by many because he is nice, friendly, and good in cockfighting.

One day, while coming home after a long day’s work, Awiyao saw in the fields a girl planting beans. He has a thing for beans that’s why he liked the way the beans are being planted in the soil. Awiyao approached her and complimented her bean-planting skills. She was flattered by it so she introduced herself to him. Her name is Lumnay.

Awiyao then invited her to his house where they ate dinner together, talked about beans together and eventually slept together for the night. The next day, Lumnay woke up to see Awiyao’s hut a mess so she cleaned it up for him. He would wake to see his house clean, all thanks to Lumnay. He felt a sudden attraction because of she can do.

Awiyao took the courage to propose Lumnay marriage and eventually they tied the not. The relationship started out happy and strong but as months and years passes by, Lumnay is unable to conceive a child for her husband. This made Awiyao angry, very angry.

Frustrated for her wife’s inability to bear children, he left her. It was never his intention though to leave her but Awiyao wanted to have a family, complete with a husband, a wife, and children.

He thought of ways of how he could impregnate his wife, Awiyao sought the help of the barrio babaylan, Madukmay, in finding a way to make Lumnay fertile. The babaylan said that in order to fulfill his wish, Awiyao must do the impossible. Madukmay told Awiyao that he must look for a pearl that could make a woman pregnant when swallowed. This particular pearl can only be found at the deepest of the deep blue sea that is filled with numerous sharks, eels, and piranhas.

Awiyao said he is willing to do anything for the sake of Lumnay, his ever undying true love. He then set forth towards the sea and swam using a bamboo mouthpiece encased with oxygen that could last for two hours. He went past the sharks and the eels but got critically injured by the piranhas. Fortunately he was able to retrieve the pearl and swam back to he surface before returning to land. He then had Lumnay swallow the pearl and weeks later, she had successfully conceived with Awiyao’s child.

Nine months later, a baby boy was born. The new bundle of joy was named “Madukmay” by Lumnay. Awiyao and Lumnay, after all the hardships that they had faced, are now living peacefully and their love grew stronger than ever.

A the sun began to set, they looked at each other and shared a kiss together.
